A pleasant gathering of relatives and friends took place in Ghent on Monday, Dec. 12th, at the house of Mrs. Dorcas Mesick, relict [widow] of Philip Mesick. The occasion marked the seventy eighth anniversary of Mrs. Mesick's birth, and about thirty persons assembled to enjoy her generous hospitality.
In the number were her children, Mrs. George I. Snyder and States Mesick, (her son Charles of Springfield, Mass, being unavoidably absent), four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The day was one of large enjoyment to all the guests who showed their hearty appreciation of the feast prepared for them. As the evening drew on prayer was offered by her pastor, DeWitt B. Wyckoff, and the friends returned to their homes, leaving little gifts as a souvenir of a delightful day. - The Chatham Courier December 14, 1892
