Billy Eugene Beard, 79, of St. James Church Road, passed away Feb. 17, 2009, at the Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. He was born Dec. 10, 1929, in Catawba County to the late Fred Beard and Christina Finger Beard. He was a member of Mays Chapel United Methodist Church and a doffer for Clyde Fabrics for 36 years. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Beard of the home one son, Michael Beard and his wife, Rita, of Maiden grandchildren, Jason and Suzanne Beard, Dana and Mark Johnson and Jamey Wilson great-grandchildren, Taylor and Alex Beard, Kayla and Jonathan Johnson, Hunter Wilson and Carleigh Lancaster two brothers, Carl Beard and Glenn Beard, both of Maiden and four sisters, Ruth Cansler, Edith Pirkle, Betty Willis and Rosa Poovey, all of Maiden. The service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at Mays Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Lepley will officiate. Memorials may be made to Mays Chapel United Methodist Church of Maiden or Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley.
