Found him on the 1910 Ghent, Columbia, New York census (dist 14 img 25) as James J. VanValkenburgh age 65, painter.

Found him on the 1920 Ghent, Columbia, New York census (dist 20 img 8) as James VanValkenburgh age 74, carpenter, house.

The death of James J. Van Valkenburgh, age 83, one of the oldest residents of West Ghent, occurred this Thursday morning at his home near that place following a short illness of pneumonia.

The deceased is survived by his wife Martha Fingar Van Valkenburgh and one daughter Mrs. Maude Doust, both of West Ghent. - The Chatham Courier January 19, 1928
