Born in Rhinebeck 52 years ago, William Earl Moore of 97 West Market street, Red Hook, died suddenly late Monday afternoon while delivering gasoline to the Dewey Briggs station at Clinton Square in Poughkeepsie. Death was caused by an acute heart condition, according to Dr. L. Edward Cotter of Red Hook, Dutchess county medical examiner, who said that Mr. Moore had been under his care for a considerable time. He had only recently returned to work for the Socony-Vacuum Oil Co., with which he had been associated for 30 years. It was reported that Mr. Moore leaped to the top of the oil truck after it rolled back and hit a concrete island to the center of the station. He died immediately, before an ambulance from St. Francis Hospital could reach the scene. Mr. Moore was born in Rhinebeck on April 1, 1900, a son of Eugene and the late Minnie Stoutenburgh Moore. He had been a resident of Red Hook for the past 25 years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in Red Hook, and had served on its council for six years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of that church, of Rhinebeck Lodge, No. 432 F. and A. M., and of Hendrick Hudson Chapter, O. E. S., of Red Hook.
Surviving are his father, his wife, Mrs. Leola M. Moore a daughter, Miss Lola Jeanne Moore of Red Hook a brother, Clifton J. Moore of Poughkeepsie and two nephews. Masonic funeral services were conducted at the Burnett and Rockefeller Funeral Home in Red Hook at eight o'clock Wednesday evening and Eastern Star services followed at 8.30 o'clock. Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Lutheran church at two o'clock this Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Herman F. Vesper, pastor. Interment took place in the Wurtemburg cemetery, town of Rhinebeck. - The Rhinebeck Gazette July 24, 1952
