The subject of this obituary notice was born in Albany county, N. Y., February 26th, 1808, and died at his home in the town of Orange, Schuyler county, N. Y., on June 22d, 1883, aged seventy-five years three months and twenty-six days.

In July, 1860, Mr. Vine moved from Albany county to his late home where he continued to reside till his death. He had held the office of Overseer of the Poor in the town of Orange, at different times, thirteen years in all. He was by occupation a farmer, and in his youth and middle age was a man of considerable vigor, both physically and mentally. He was a constant reader of the papers and kept himself well informed as to the events of the day, and was, while in health, rather an active politician, his sympathies being with the Democratic party.

For some years past his health had been gradually failing, and his relatives and friends saw that he was almost through with this life. On the 3d day of last January he went on a visit to Albany, and on the 3d of April, when he returned, he was sick and has never since been well.

One week before his death be lost consciousness both of the things about him, and we trust, of his pains. At half-past eleven o'clock on the 22d of June, just two years and two days after he had seen his loved and aged wife breathe her last, his own spirit took leave of the body and winged its way back to God who gave it. He, though having never made a public profession of religion, yet was, we are told, a reader and lover of the Bible, and led a strictly moral and upright life.

He leaves to mourn his demise, of his own relatives, two brothers and two sisters in Albany county, and one brother in Campbelltown, and also four children. One daughter in California and two daughters and one son here.

The son - John C. Vine - is the present Supervisor of the town of Orange. By the death of George Vine the community in which he lived, and the Masonic fraternity, of which he was an honored member, lose a good citizen and a good man. His funeral was attended on Sunday, June 24th, at two p. m. at his late residence, Rev. A. S. Hughey, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. He was buried with Masonic honors, and the lodge of Tyrone united with the lodge of Monterey in the services. A vast concourse of neighbors and friends attended bis funeral and followed him to his last resting place.
