Although many records show his name as
Henry Wittenburg, the evidence is that he is the biological son of
August Kleinsmith (Kleinschmidt), who died in 1891.

Henry Wittenburg age 10.
Found him on the 1905 Olean Ward 5, Cattaraugus, New York state census (E.D.01 img 18) as
Henry Wittenburg age 15.
Found him on the 1920 Olean Ward 7, Cattaraugus, New York census (dist 82 img 15) as
Henry Wittenburg age 29, single, living at home.
Found him on the 1940 Olean, Cattaraugus, New York census (dist 5-48 img 21) as

Henry Wittenburg, 89, of 132 N. 15th St. Olean, died Monday ( April 16, 1979) in Olean General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 2, 1890 in Saginaw, Mich., he was a son of William and Maria Finger Wittenburg.
In September 1933 in Cuba, he married the former Laura Heller, who predeceased him in July 1969.
Mr. Wittenburg was a veteran of World War I, serving with the army in France. He had been employed for several years at
Socony Vacuum Oil Company. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Olean; Olean Aerie 616 Order of Eagles; and a member of Olean Post 1516 Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Sophia) Meyers, and Mrs. Alfred (Minnie) Struble, both of Olean, and Mrs. Clifford (Marie) Wing of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews. - Olean Times Herald April 17, 1979
