Blanche E. Finger, 90, of Sabetha died Friday afternoon, August 10, 2007 from complications of a stroke at the Apostolic Christian Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past 15 months.
Blanche was born April 14, 1917 in Baker, KS one of six children to Arthur and Carrie Villard McCray. She graduated from Powhattan High School and Strickler’s Business College in Topeka, KS. After college she moved to Washington D.C. and worked as a “Government Girl.” She married her classmate from Powhattan, Ernest Finger on June 16, 1938. While living in Virginia, Blanche was an active 4-H leader and homemaker. They moved back to Kansas in 1990 and lived in Netawaka. In January of 2001 they moved to the Apostolic Christian Village in Sabetha.
Ernest preceded her in death November 3, 2001.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Powhattan. Blanche enjoyed sewing and cooking.
She is survived by a son Dennis Finger and wife Karone of Cedarvale, KS, twin daughters, Karen Scarry and husband Bill, and Sharon Todd and husband Jim all of McLean, VA, five grandchildren; Suzie Finger of Falls City, WA, Kenneth Finger of Leesburg, VA, Bonnie Barnett of Topeka, KS, Steve Stratton of Dayton, OH, and Jeff Stratton of Oakton, VA, 5 great-grandchildren; Justin, Joshua, Isabelle, Andrew, and Katie, three step grandchildren; Anne, John, and Patricia, four step-great-grandchildren; Rachel, Rebecca, Michael, and Abbi, two sisters; Ruth Bell and husband Lloyd of Sabetha, KS, and Rosalie Humphrey and husband Clare of Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Warren and Eddie McCray, and a sister Grace Dailey. Interment will follow at the Powhattan Cemetery.
