Batavia, Oct. 29.—(Special.)— William Finger, aged 61 years, a respected and well-to-do resident of Alabama Center, this county, was discovered hanging to a small apple tree in the rear of his home to-day. He had evidently climbed the tree, and tying one end of the rope to a limb and the other around his neck, had jumped off.
The discovery of the suicide was made about 1:30 o'clock this afternoon. His shoes came within two feet of the ground. Mr. Finger left his home yesterday morning about 10 o'clock, and was seemingly in a cheerful state of mind. He did not return during the day nor last night, and nothing was known of his whereabouts until the shocking discovery today.
Coroner Parmele of Batavla was notified of the affair to-day at 2 o'clock, and at 2:30 pm left for the scene. Upon his arrival he viewed the remains and granted a certificate of death by suicide, after which they were taken in charge by undertaker Weaver of Oakfield. The deceased is survived his widow and two sons, Sherman, residing in Alabama Center, and William D., who resides in the West. Mrs. Finger is unable to ascribe any reason for her husband's rash act, as their domestic relations were of the most pleasant nature. - Buffalo Courier October 30, 1894
