Wesley Shultis, who for many years figured prominently in the business life of the towns of Woodstock and Saugerties, was born Sept 18, 1824, a son of Henry and Rachel Shultis and a grandson of Philip Shultis, one of the early settlers in the Woodstock section.
He was brought upon the family farm and at the age of 18 became a teacher in the village school. He continued teaching 13 years, a portion of that time in the capacity of tutor in Jonesville Academy. Mr. Shultis next engaged in the general store business with Christian Behr at Bearsville, remaining there about 20 years. In 1816 he removed to Saugerties and kept a store there. He was a director of the State of New York Bank in Kingston a trustee of the Saugerties Savings Bank, and district and circuit-steward of the Woodstock M.E. Church of which his father had been one of the founders.
Mr. Shultis was first married Oct. 9, 1849 to Naomi Saxe, and their children were named Clarence and Fred. He was subsequently married to Sarah Saxe, and to Eudora Abbey, daughter of David Abbey of Kingston. Kingston Daily Freeman May 5, 1948 page 2
