Matilda came through Ellis Island in 1906 with three young children, she left Bohemia, departed from Belgium and traveled from Ellis Island to Kalamazoo, Michigan to meet her husband who had arrived a couple years earlier. They opened a grocery store at 4th and Vine in Kalamazoo - Colleen Fitzsimmons-VanderWal
