From information since the theft of nearly $400 from
Eugene Finger, of Bluff Point, it appears to have been the work of the 'hired man,' who came to this region from another state. He was left alone at the house while Mr. Finger was away and Mrs. Finger was visiting at a neighbor's. It is said that the money was kept in a bureau drawer. What was easier than for the 'hired man' to take it, with no one around to know anything about it? On Mrs. Finger's return he asked her if she was going to Penn Yan. She replied that she was, and as he expressed a wish to go. The trip was made, and on arrival there, or soon after, he told her that he concluded he would not go back with her, but would stay and see the movies. That was the last that was seen or heard of him. He 'movied' out no one knows where. On returning home, Mr. and Mrs. Finger discovered that the money was gone and it was easy to make a sure guess who had taken it. Events all around played directly into the thief's hands. -
