Due to Cramped Facilities Atop Whiteface, 10,000 Will Hear His Words at Lake Placid Flying Field

LAKE PLACID, Sept. 12 (Special) - The speech by President Roosevelt dedicating the Whiteface Memorial Highway, to be delivered from the top of Whiteface mountain at noon Saturday, will be sent by General Electric's beam of light apparatus to the Lake Placid airport and fed into a public address system for the benefit of the 10,000 or more who were expected here for this event.

With the announcement today that 200 automobiles only would be allowed to accompany the President up the mountain Saturday for this ceremony, which meant that the large majority of persons would be disappointed, representatives of the General Electric telephoned Marvin H. McIntyre, secretary to the President, at Hyde Park, and arranged for the President's speech to be sent over the beam of light apparatus to the airport where there are ample accommodations for all.

Earlier in the day the President decided that his talks here would not be broadcast. He will speak twice. The first will be at the Olympic stadium and it will be devoted to 50 years of conservation. The second talk will be atop Whiteface mountain. Immediately after the dedicatory ceremonies, the President will leave by special train for Saratoga, where he will spend the hour between 5 and 6 o'clock Inspecting the new Roosevelt baths and the Spa development. Friday night Governor Lehman will speak from atop Whiteface mountain over the beam of light to the 1,000 or more attending the open air sportsmen's dinner at the airport.

The beam of light apparatus atop the mountain will be directed by L. H. Peer, assisted by H. D. Phillips, with Elmer Finger operating the receiving equipment at the airport.

All are from the research laboratory of the General Electric Company at Schenectady.
