Mrs. Zeda Fitzwater, 50, died November 8, 1949, at her home near Branchport. She was a daughter of Bert and Lillian Fingar, and was born in the town of Jerusalem. She was a member of the Friend Methodist Church. Besides her husband, Frank Fitzwater, and her parents, she leaves two sons, Elwood, at home, and Leslie, of Naples; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Conley, of Branchport; four brothers Leslie, Clyde and Robert all of Branchport, and Frederick, of Meridan, Conn.; four sisters, Mrs. Ralph Corey, of Penn Yan, Mrs. John Hopkins, Mrs. Warren Morrison and Mrs. Howard Fox, all of Branchport; three grandchildren. Services were held from the Friend Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. T. Butterfield, and burial was made made in Italy Hill cemetery.

Read an interesting account of his life, complied from his Civil War pension file at NARA.

Jacob W. Fingar has brought a suit for slander against Harriet J. Ward, a clairvoyant living in East Washington street. He alleges that the defendant charged him with being the cause of her husband's illness, which resulted fatally, and with having swindled her out of thirty-six dollars. The defence is a general denial with a statement that all Mrs. Ward did was to state what she believed to be the facts. - Syracuse Weekly Express May 22, 1889.

He is listed on the 1880 Syracuse, Onondaga, New York census, age 47, stair builder. He is a boarder in the household of Delcina Marsh age 42, divorced. (Jacob later married her, in 1884)

He is listed in the 1887 and 1888 Syracuse, New York Directories at 379 North Salina, confectioner.

Also listed in the 1889 and 1890 Syracuse, New York Directories at 607 east Washington, baker.

He applied for a disability pension, citing blindness, on July 1, 1891. On this application he is described as 5' 11½", light complexion, brown hair and blue eyes.
