Found him on the 1870 Warren, Tennessee census (dist 1 img 4) as Wm. P. Finger age 21. Value of real estate, $4,000; value of personal estate, $500.

By 1870 the Finger family had made some property adjustments and appeared to be well settled. The census suggests that William P. and Cicero had divided their father's property, for the brothers occupied adjoining farms worth $4,000 each.

Based on births of children on census records, he must have moved from Tennessee to Kansas between 1877 and 1880.

Found him on the 1880 Spring Valley, McPherson, Kansas census (dist 273 img 9) age 31, farmer.

Found him on the 1885 Paxton, Pratt, Kansas state census (img 1) as W. P. Finger age 35, farmer. He is also listed as the assessor on this census form, Post Office, Saratoga. Also in his household are his wife's parents Meredith and Sarah Hill. He is the owner of 160 acres of land, valued at $1200 (img 15). As assessor, here are some notes he made concerning the conditions of the area at that time, as he took the 1885 census.

Besides farming, he worked as a hardware and implement salesman for Lehman and Company of Newton. After three years William left Lehman and Company and went into the coal and grain business in Canton. - "The Finger Family: Direct Relations of John R. Finger" by John R. Finger October 6, 2003

Found him on the 1905 Elm, Pratt, Kansas state census (img 11) as W. P. Finger age 55. Under abode it shows "Store + Res".

Found him on the 1910 Wichita Ward 6, Sedgwick, Kansas census (dist 144 img 4) age 61, own income. His daughter and son-in-law George and Flora Peirson are living with him.

Found him on the 1915 Wichita, Sedgwick, Kansas state census (img 3094) as W. P. Finger age 65.

Found her on the 1900 Arkedelphia, Clark, Arkansas census (dist 9 img 50) as Alice Finger age 39. This census says born Dec 1860, but on the 1860 census she is already 1 year old.
