Edward Stickles has spent his life since the age of twelve years on the farm where he now lives, in the town of Livingston, Columbia County, N. Y. The old homestead has been in the family for many years, and around the hearthstone hover the remembrances and associations of generations. Mr. Stickles was born here on October 4, 1816, continued in the occupation. Children have been born to them; and another home circle has been formed, made up of kindred hearts, and held together by natural affections.

The father of Edward was Frederick F. Stickles, who was born in Dutchess County, and was a resident of the Town of Livingston, where he died at the age of seventy eight years. The wife of Frederick F. Stickles was Elizabeth Snyder, a former resident of Dutchess County. She bore eight children, and died in Livingston, when eighty years old. She was an earnest Christian woman, abounding in good works, and a member of the Reformed Church. The children were, Henry, Jane, Edward, Hiram, Elizabeth, John, Cyrenus and Margaret. After the death of the father, the second son, Edward, assumed control of the farm, which he has since successfully managed. He is widely and favorably known as an industrious and useful citizen. He was married to Mary Rossman, a daughter of John G. and Catherine (Best) Rossman. She was one of a family of nine children - Susan, George, Jacob, Eva, Margaret, James, William, Mary, and Ann. The mother died at the age of seventy-nine years, and the father died when eighty-five years old.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stickles have had nine children, seven of whom are now living. The first was Catherine, who married Joseph Shutts, a son of Walter Shutts, a farmer of Livingston; and they have two children - Delia and Edward. The next was Frederick, who married Cornelia Smith, a daughter of Jonas Smith. They have three children - Hattie, Cornelia, and Mary. The next was Mary, who became the wife of Griffin Fingar, a son of Adam Fingar; and they have four children: Mary, Frank, Rossman, and Edith. The fourth was Susan. She married Theron Moore, and they have three children - John, Henry, and Beulah. The fifth was Frank (deceased). The sixth was Eudora (deceased). The seventh was Carrie, the next Jessie, and the last John, who married Gertrude Miller, of Livingston, a daughter of Joseph Miller, a farmer of that town, and is assisting his father on the old place. The Stickles family attend the services of the Reformed church, and are among the useful and esteemed citizens of the town of Livingston.
