Found him on the 1880 Claverack, Columbia, New York census (dist 6 img 12) as Peter R. Fingar age 41, teacher.
Peter R. Fingar enlisted in the Civil War as a private on 3 September 1862 at the age of 24. He was promoted to Full Lieutenant 2nd class on 15 October 1862. He was discharged from the 167th Infantry Regiment New York on 31 October 1862. - ancestry.com
Peter R. Fingar, for many years a resident and business man in Claverack, died a few days ago in the Hudson hospital at the age of eighty-one years. He had also lived in Valatie and Hudson and was a civil war veteran. - Chatham Courier December, 1919
