Rescued by a Brave Lad. - Saturday afternoon, as Mr. Curtis Fingar, of Germantown, was crossing the river on the ice at that point, and had reached the channel, about half-way across, he broke through the treacherous ice. His cries attracted the attention of Master F. W. Rockefeller, Jr., a lad of fourteen years, who was skating at some distance away, and he proceeded to his rescue. With remarkable presence of mind and great coolness, he planted the heels of his skates in the strong ice near the break, and taking a long comforter from his neck, threw it to the drowning man and drew him out not a moment too soon to save his life. Young Rockefeller can take his place among the youthful life-savers. - The Evening Register Dec 13, 1880
