On Friday evening, October 20 1916, occurred the death of John P. Coons
at his home in Elizabeth street. Early in the winter a year ago he suffered a severe attack of la grippe, from which he never recovered. A few times he was able to be on the street last summer.
Deceased was one of eleven children of the late Philip
and Anna Finger Coons
and was born in Penn Yan, N. Y., May 1, 1836.
The greater part of his life had been spent in Naples. In 1863 he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Vincent
, who died in 1865. To them was born one child, Mrs. Cora Seamans
, now of Wolcott.
In 1868 he married Miss Nettie Maxfield
,of Naples, who died within one year.
In 1870 he married Miss Mary Boals
, she died in 1906.
In 1907 he married Mrs. Mary Andrews
, of Ann Arbor, Mich., who within a few months was taken ill and did not long survive.
In 1908 he married Mrs. Sarah Allen
, of Rochester, who, with the daughter mentioned, survives.
When a young man he learned the carpenter trade of the late Robert T. Porter
, and until within the past few years found ready employment. He had served the town as excise commissioner and as assessor and the village as trustee, president and assessor. He was a member and supporter of the Presbyterian church and at the time of his death was one of its trustees. Funeral services were held from the home at 2 p. m. on Monday, conducted by Dr. R . H.
