Sydney Smith age 59, farmer.
Sidney Smith died at his home in the town of Pine Plains, early last Friday morning, aged 62 years. Mr. Smith had been in poor health for some time with a complication of diseases. Although the condition of the deceased predicted his death for some time the end came as a shock to the entire community.
Mr. Smith was born at Taghkanic, Columbia County, November 20, 1850, was the son of John and Christina Decker Smith, and was a resident of that county for about forty years. About twenty years ago he moved to the farm where he deceased, and was known as one of the most successful farmers in this vicinity. Early in life he married Johanna Finger, of Livingston, who survives him. He was a charter member of Pine Plains Grange.
Besides a wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Christina Smith, and two children, John Smith, and Susie, wife of Walter M. Rowe.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Charles W. Dane, D.D. pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Among the floral tributes were a wreath from widow, flat bouquet from Mrs. Walter Rowe and John Smith, wreath from Pine Plains Grange, wreath from John Hedges and Herbert Case, bouquets from Mr. and Mrs. William Leach.
