The Recorder November 3, 1922
A very sad accident occurred near Coxsackie in the afternoon of March 4th, when Alexander O. Finch met his death. He was killed by the falling of a huge oak tree, which had large spreading branches and stood in the open. When an attempt was made to wedge the tree it fell whirling to the ground. One of the low branches caught the young man, making escape impossible. He died instantly, his neck and collar bone being broken.
Mr. Finch who was 23 years of age, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orr Finch of Coxsackle, also four sister, four brothers and his young wife, who was formerly Miss Grace L. Speenburgh of East Jewett. His funeral was held at his late home in Coxsackle Friday, March 7. The great number of people present and the large floral offerings speak much of the esteem of his friends.
This young man's tragic death has caused real sorrow to people In both river and mountain towns, where he was well known. The bereaved family have the sympathy of a host of friends. Everyone who made the acquaintance of this big-hearted boy soon became an ardent friend. His life was a beautiful example of helpfulness, friendliness and kindness. He was passionately fond of his home and his family. He was a dutiful son, an affectionate brother, and a devoted husband. Many lives have been enriched by his friendship and many hearts will long cherish his memory. - Stamford Mirror-Recorder March 19, 1924
