Rome - Ira G. Barney 46, World War veteran, died unexpectedly of a heart attack yesterday at the home of his stepmother, Mrs. Anna Barney, 111 Henry St. Although ill since Memorial Day and under the care of a doctor, Mr. Barney had worked until Tuesday. He was employed for the past six years as short order cook at the Lutz diner. Mr. Barney was born at Cold Brook, son of the late George M. and Eva Pullman Barney. His mother died when he was a small boy, and with his father, he came to Rome. He made his home with his stepmother, Mrs. Anna Wiegand Barney. He enlisted in the U. S. Army June 10. 1913 and received his honorable discharge Jan. 31. 1919. He was a member of Henry P. Smith Post 24, American Legion and was of the Methodist faith. Besides his stepmother he leaves his wife, the former Thelma Stevens, two daughters, Anna Frances and Shirley a son, Donald an aunt, Mrs. Henry Fergnson, North Ilion, and a niece, Mrs. Lillian Hudd, St. Johnsville. Found him on the 1900 Russia, Herkimer, New York census (dist 63 img 10) as Ira G. Barney age 9. This census says he was born in April, 1891. Found him on the 1920 Rome, Oneida, New York census (dist 108 img 3) as Ira Barney age 28, single, living with his widowed step-mother Anna. Address: 112 East Embargo St.
