Madelyn was born Feb. 8, 1949, in McAllen to James and Rosemary Dyess. She grew up in Hondo and attended Hondo High School and graduated from Amarillo High School. She recently retired from Amarillo Speed Print after many years in the printing business.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Brent Douglass.
