Found him on the 1900 Manhattan, New York, New York census (dist 142 img 17) as Alexander D. Paries age 41.
Mr. Pareis of the Pareis Brothers Towing Line ef New York is rebuilding the tug Henry Preston. Sr., on Hiltebrant's dry deck. He is stopping at the home of Knud Olsen. - The Kingston Daily Freeman January 20, 1917

Davis A. Pareis, Sr., of Maiden, died at the home of his son, David A. Pareis, Jr., at Hasbrouck Heights, N. J., Saturday, July 16, at 2:40 p.m., after an illness of several days.
Mr. Pareis for the past half century had been a marine engineer and at the time of his death was the oldest engineer in New York harbor, having been engaged in this vocation for 62 years. Mr. Pareis's first boating goes back to the days of sloops on the Hudson river, on which he sailed as a boy of twelve years with his father on the sloop Pennsylvania and various other sloops. Later he organized with his brothers the Pareis Bros. Towing Line in New York harbor which they operated for 35 years. At the death of his brother the business was disposed of and Mr. Pareis entered the employ of the Turecono Towing Co. of New York. He remained with this company up till his death.
Deceased leaves to mourn his passing two sons, David, Jr., and Elliott, and two grandchildren, Edgar Elliott and Lilla. Mr Pareis was well known in town and he was respected by friends and neighbors. He was always jovial and genial and his death will be regretted by those who knew him. - The Kingston Daily Freeman July 19, 1932
