Emigrated 1860
Father identified in an e-mail from Kathryn Howard 5-2-04.
Kathy Howard subsequently shared with me her letter from Ulrich dated 19 Jan
2004:
"
Emanuel Finger was born December 3rd 1840 11pm as son of
Henrich Finger and his wife
Anna Elisabeth born
Binzer in house No 53. He was baptized 6th of December and was confirmated in 1855. According to my notes he has emigrated in 1860. He had a brother
Hartmann (born 1847) who emigrated in 1865 followed by their youngest brother
Konrad (born 1849). A family-schedule of the late 1870s preserved in our parish informs us that all three brothers, Emanuel, Hartmann and Konrad Finger, then lived "in America, where the two eldest were married half an hour distant from Milwaukee."
"The fact that Emanuel has got a second name William in America can be explained very easily. His Christain name Emanuel was pronounced in our dialect very strangely like "Mourna-Will" so that he used to second syllable "Will" and extended it to "William".
Katharina Elisabeth Ernst was born April 11th 1842 6 am as daughter of
Johannes Ernst and his wife
Anna Elisabeth Gross in house No 21. She was baptized 17th April and was confirmed 1856. According to my notes she has emigrated in 1860. She had a sister
Anna Maria (born 1840) who emigrated in 1865 and a brother
Henrich Elias (born 1837) who maybe has emigrated, too, but this is not sure."
