Elias Finger was appointed an Ensign in a regiment under Lt. Col. Sam'l Ten Broeck. By the time of the War of 1812, he was promoted to Captain [April 1814] in the 15th Regiment under Lt. Col. John Shaver, one of four regiments under General Sam'l Ten Broeck. - Lee Fingar, from Military Minutes of the Council of Appointments of the State of New York, 1783-1821, Vol I & II, pages 810, 908 & 1460.
