Ruben R. Finger, 90, of Hiawatha, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Maple Heights Nursing and Rehab Center in Hiawatha, Kansas. He was born on July 17, 1927 in Powhattan, Kansas the son of Christian and Clara Wenger Finger.
After graduating from Powhattan High School in 1945. Ruben served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following his enlistment Ruben returned home and worked as a farmer and stockman for many years and also drove a school bus for South Brown County U.S.D #430.
Ruben married Barbara Belinger, they later were divorced. He then married Helen Kleopfer, they were married for 30 years before she passed away.
He received the Kansas Bankers soil conservation award in 1974. He was a member of the Powhattan United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Powhattan American Legion Post #373 for over 30 years were he held several offices. Ruben served on the watershed committee for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood crafting.
Survivors include a son, Ruben Paul Finger of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four daughters, Marilyn Faye Yantis of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Kathy Lynn Gates of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Linda Lee Carson of Parsons, Kansas and Julie Ann Little of Bonner Springs, Kansas; two step daughters, Diana Ottman of Horton, Kansas and Debbie Herman of Houston, Texas; brother, Eddie Finger of Powhattan, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Ernest, Chris, Emiel and Sam Finger and two sisters, Elizabeth Andres and Helen Dodge. Burial with military graveside rites will follow at the Powhattan Cemetery
