Ollis Winston, a colored youth, after having a preliminary hearing in the United States branch of the Police Court this morning was held under $1,000 bonds by Judge Scott to await action by the grand jury on a charge of house-breaking. Winston is accused of entering the store of
Aaron Finger, 2117 7th street northwest, about noon Friday last during the temporary absence of the clerk and abstracting $12 in change from the cash register.
Sarah Finger, wife of the proprietor, hearing someone behind the counter went into the store and made an effort to detain the intruder but was knocked down. Winston, who is alleged to be be the burglar, made his escape, but was captured the next day by Policeman Barnes. He denies the charge, but Mrs. Finger, who says that she has known that man for nine years, is positive in her identification of him. -
