Found him on the 1880 Claverack, Columbia, New York census, as Sylvanus Finger age 24, works in cotton mill. He is living with his wife and son Charles in his mother-in-law's (Angeline Gifford) house.

Found him on the 1920 Claverack, Columbia, New York census age 65, operator, cotton mill. He is listed as a brother of Sara Finger, age 64, who is Head of Household. His mother, Julia, age 91, widow, is two doors down.

Last Saturday night about midnight Sylvanus Finger was aroused from his slumber and discovered that a lamp that had been left burning had exploded, scattering the oil about the floor and was burning rapidly. Sylvanus Fingar, 77, of 172 Aiden Avenue Albany, a visitor at the home of Albert Crick's in Harlemville, died suddenly in that Hamlet Tuesday night.
